Sentencing of the former SASSA official
The former South African Social Security Agency official Ms. Alina Nkwanyana in Mpumalanga will be sentenced tomorrow(12 November 2021) in Middleburg Magistrate Court after she was charged with three counts which are fraud, forgery and uttering. The court found her guilty on two counts: fraud and uttering.
The former official was criminally charged for submitting a fake matric certificate at the time of applying for a position of senior administration officer in SASSA back in 2006.
An internal investigation was conducted upon receiving an allegation from the office of the Public Service Commission that Nkwanyana submitted a fake matric certificate, based on the outcome of the internal investigation, criminal charges were persuaded against her.
She was arrested on 26 February 2021 and released on a bail of R3 000-00. The state had four witnesses and defence had one witness. On 8 August 2021 the court made a finding that the evidence presented by all four state witnesses was credible and admissible while evidence from the defence was not credible.
