Nigeria confirms resumption of passenger train service suspended following attack

The Nigerian government has announced that passenger train service between the capital city Abuja and the northern city Kaduna would resume early next week, about eight months after it was suspended after an attack on a train along the route at the end of March.

Fidet Okhiria, managing director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, told a press conference that passengers wishing to utilize the service will be able to purchase their tickets within a few days.

A passenger train going from Abuja to Kaduna was attacked by gunmen in Rijana, a town in Kaduna, on March 28. At least eight people were killed, 26 others were hurt, and over 60 people were taken away.

Okhiria said security measures have been put in place to make sure everyone on board is safe.
