Polio Vaccination Campaign Kicks Off in Léraba


SINDOU, Burkina Faso — The Léraba province launched a significant health initiative against poliomyelitis on Friday, May 10, 2024, led by Yéonviel Somé, the secretary general of the province. This health drive, conducted at the urban CSPS of Sindou, the capital of Léraba, integrates polio vaccinations with malnutrition screening for children aged zero to five years and is scheduled to run until Tuesday, May 14, 2024.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the chief health district doctor of Sindou, this local commencement is aimed at maximizing outreach and addressing vaccination hesitancy among the population, with the backing of local authorities. The 2023 statistics for the Sindou district indicated only suspicious cases of poliomyelitis, with all samples testing negative. Dr. Ouattara emphasized the ongoing surveillance for poliomyelitis and the prioritization of certain health sites for focused monitoring. Yéonviel Somé urged the women and heads of households in Léraba to welcome health workers into their communities to ensure the success of the vaccination and screening efforts.
