Ethiopian Government Assists 6.6 Million People with Humanitarian Aid

Addis Ababa: The National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC) has been actively distributing humanitarian aid to 6.6 million Ethiopians affected by various crises, as informed by NDRMC’s Public Relations and Communication representative, Atalel Abohay.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, This comprehensive effort involves both national and international donors and covers the distribution of food, non-food items, and cash. In the current fiscal year’s first six months, significant resources, including over 894,000 quintals of grain and 540.5 million Birr in cash, were allocated to support the affected populations.

The aid, aimed at victims of natural and man-made disasters primarily in the Afar, Tigray, and Amhara regions, has totaled 15.2 billion Birr in value. Atalel highlighted the government’s role in compensating for shortfalls from donor organizations, contributing significantly from its reserve food warehouses. Following diplomatic engagements, international donors, previously halting their aid, resumed support, covering 30 percent of the needs in the latest round of assistance. The continuous collaboration with these organizations ensures ongoing support for the affected 6.6 million individuals.
