Teenager Drowns While Fishing in Omusati Region


OMUSATI, Namibia — A tragic incident unfolded in the Omusati Region on Friday evening, resulting in the drowning of a 13-year-old boy while he was fishing with friends at the Okano dam in Oshikulufitu village, Ogongo Constituency. The victim has been identified as Akushanga Simon Petrus Eita Shipingana Tangomwene.



According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force Omusati crime investigations coordinator, the accident occurred around 18h00. Reports indicate that the teenager, while fishing with his peers, decided to swim further into the dam. Unfortunately, he became exhausted and began to scream for help before disappearing under the water.



The search for Tangomwene ended the following morning when divers from the NamPol Oshakati Special Reserve Force recovered his lifeless body from the dam. His body was subsequently transported to the Okahao police mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.



The Namibian Police Force is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, which has cast a shadow over the community of Oshikulufitu village.
