CP3 Program Expansion to Enhance Public Health Response in Narok’s New Sub County

NAROK – The Community Epidemic Pandemic Preparedness Programme (CP3) is set to extend its services to the newly established Trans Mara West sub county in Narok, aiming to bolster community resilience against public health threats.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Director of Public Health in Narok County, the initiative seeks to enhance the community’s ability to prepare for, detect, and manage public health emergencies. Kiio highlighted that the program’s expansion would aid in reinforcing the government and its partners’ efforts towards a unified health approach, ultimately benefiting the local communities.

Elijah Wachira, the Red Cross County Coordinator, emphasized the program’s role in sustaining the health status along the shared borders between Migori and Kisii counties, which are prone to zoonotic diseases like rabies and anthrax. Wachira also mentioned that the CP3 program would address environmental health concerns, including solid waste management challenges arising from sugar cane cultivation.

The initiative promises significant community advantages, such as economic empowerment, with plans to train over 200 Community Health Promoters. Nancy Laboso, the Director of Disaster Management, identified several disasters the region faces, including effects from El Niño like floods, lightning, thunderstorms, and strong winds. Laboso assured that the stakeholders’ efforts would include scaling up emergency response services to these disasters.

The Department of Health Services in Narok is now focusing on educating the communities about the One-health approach, aiming to create widespread awareness to improve overall public health resilience in the face of emerging threats.
