Baby Girl Found Abandoned on Railway Line in Belfast

Pretoria – A baby girl was miraculously discovered by security personnel on Thursday, 16 November 2023, abandoned in a maize meal bag along a railway line in Dalmanuta, Belfast. The security team was alerted by the infant’s cries and found her inside the bag.

According to South African Police Service, the police and paramedics were immediately summoned to the scene, where the child received stabilizing medical care and was subsequently taken to a medical facility for further attention. The police have appealed to the public for assistance in locating the baby’s mother, encouraging anyone with information to contact Detective Constable Tinyiko Khoza or use the Crime Stop number and MySAPS App.

Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, condemned the act of child neglect, especially as the country prepares to observe the 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children.
