In a major boost to local craftsmanship

Nanyuki, Kenya – over 800 artisans from Laikipia County have been accredited by the National Construction Authority (NCA). This initiative, led by NCA General Manager, architect Juliet Kabere, seeks to elevate the skills and employability of construction workers. Speaking at Thingithu Secondary School in Nanyuki, Kabere emphasized the significance of skilled labor in maintaining construction quality. The accreditation covered diverse trades including plumbers, masons, painters, electricians, and site supervisors.

According to Kenya News Agency, Laikipia County Woman Representative Jane Kagiri noted the critical role of this accreditation in securing jobs for local artisans in government-affiliated affordable housing projects. The lack of skills and certification had previously hindered local workers from capitalizing on construction opportunities. The artisan community welcomed the move, recognizing it as a path to employment and financial stability. This development follows recent criticism by residents over the exclusion of local labor in the Nanyuki Affordable Housing project. The registration, supported by the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), is seen as a significant step towards resolving this issue.
