Commercial Crime Unit arrests suspect for fraudulent transactions to the value of R 180 000

The determination of a seasoned investigating officer attached to the Commercial Crime Unit in Cape Town, to rid the communities of fraudulent activities, ensured a breakthrough in a case reported already during April 2022.

The investigating officer assigned to handle the investigation paved the way to reach his goal in ensuring an arrest. The initial information at his disposal at the time when the case was registered in Delft, indicated that the suspect was employed as a property sales agent. According to reports, he advised four of his clients to deposit funds into his personal bank account. The funds as per the agreement with the clients was however never paid into the business account where he was employed or refunded to the clients. The suspect instead used the cash for his personal gain.

Following an intense investigation to prove the state’s case in a court of law, the investigating officer arrested and detained a 44-year-old male on Thursday 13 July 2023 on a charge of fraud.

The suspect is expected to make a court appearance in the Bellville Magistrate court today, Friday 14 July 2023 on the mentioned charge.
