Maria Veldskoen Re-Elected as Mayor of Karasburg

Karasburg – Landless People’s Movement (LPM) councillor Maria Veldskoen was re-elected as the mayor of Karasburg on Friday, marking another term in her leadership role.

According to Namibian Press Agency (NAMPA), In her acceptance speech, Veldskoen emphasized the importance of serving the residents of Karasburg with dedication and loyalty. She reminded her fellow councillors of their oath to serve the community and stressed the high expectations of residents regarding service delivery. “The price that comes with our positions is serving the inhabitants of this town promptly and with due diligence,” Veldskoen stated, underlining the necessity of fulfilling these expectations.

The mayor warned that failing to provide essential services as outlined in section 10 of the Local Authorities Act No. 23 of 1992 is not only a breach of contract by the councillors but also the highest form of betrayal to the inhabitants. She expressed her commitment to restoring the dignity of the people of Karasburg, ensuring they lead dignified lives. “With all my heart, I accept this position to be the number one servant,” she added.

The members of the management committee for the term include LPM councillors Franciskus Skeyer, Josef Witbooi, and Gregorius Ruhl, with Skeyer appointed as the chairperson of the committee. The ordinary council members comprise Swapo party councillors Elias Hauwanga and Frieda Hamutenya, along with Independent Patriots for Change councillor Nesimus Mupiya.

Magistrate Melissa Mungunda presided over the proceedings, formalizing the election and the appointment of council members for their respective positions.
