Addis Ababa Emerges as a Global Diplomatic Center, Says Foreign Ministry


Addis Ababa: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today that Addis Ababa has solidified its status as a major diplomatic hub, with 134 countries now having embassies in the city. Nebyu Tedla, the ministry’s new spokesperson, briefed the media on the increasing interest from nations to establish their diplomatic missions in Addis Ababa.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, Particularly notable is the presence of 53 African countries’ missions, highlighting the city’s significance on the continent and globally. Tedla underscored Ethiopia’s growing relations with European countries, mentioning a recent productive dialogue between Ethiopian Foreign Minister Taye Atske-Selassie and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignacio Cassis. They discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, trade, and investment.



Additionally, Tedla informed that 17 ambassadors had recently presented their credentials to President Sahle-Work Zewde, with Cabo Verde and Armenia being the latest countries to open diplomatic missions in Addis Ababa. He also confirmed the upcoming working visit of Malta’s Foreign Minister to Ethiopia.
