Yacouba Barro Elected to Lead Burkina Faso Road Transporters Amid Calls to Fight Smuggling

OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso – Yacouba Barro has been elected as the new president of the Federation of Road Transporters of Burkina Faso (FUTRB) during the organization’s 2nd ordinary congress held in Ouagadougou. Succeeding Issoufou Maïga, Barro’s election comes with immediate calls from the government to address smuggling activities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Urban Mobility and Road Safety, the congress, themed “The FUTRB, a patriotic and resilient organization of professional actors in the service of the nation,” saw the Minister urging transporters to be vigilant against contraband and to adhere to traffic regulations, including vehicle standards and heavy goods vehicle operating hours. Barro, who previously served as the vice-president of FUTRB, pledged to focus on safety awareness and service quality in his new role.
