Buffalos at the closed Bloemfontein zoo

The Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) received a media enquiry few days ago about the eleven (11) Buffalos kept at Bloemfontein Zoo since it closed.

The department would like to confirm that the buffalos are still at the Zoo and are under the care of the DESTEA and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). The buffalos will remain in the care of the above entities until the department makes a new determination.

The department would further like to indicate that the Buffalos have not been sold to anyone and the departmental Vet visited the Zoo and the buffalos are in good condition.
