Egypt Retrieves 36 Smuggled Artefacts From Spain

CAIRO – Egypt retrieved from Spain, 36 pieces of antiquities that were smuggled out in 2014, the Egyptian Public Prosecution announced, yesterday.

A delegation from the Egyptian Public Prosecution, accompanied by the Egyptian ambassador to Spain, received the artefacts from the National Archaeological Museum in Madrid, capital of Spain, according to an official statement.

The delegation will handle the packaging and shipment of the recovered artefacts to Egypt, in preparation for their delivery to Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the statement said.

The antiquities were smuggled into Spain in 2014, when the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was notified by Spanish authorities that, 36 Egyptian artefacts from Alexandria, had been seized at the Spanish port of Valencia, according to the statement.
