Léo Hosts Road Safety Awareness Day for High School and College Students

Léo – On Friday, November 3, 2023, Léo’s Radio évasée Développement (RED), in partnership with the National Road Safety Office (ONASER), conducted a road safety awareness day for high school and college students in Léo. The initiative aimed to educate young individuals about their roles and responsibilities in ensuring road safety.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the director of RED de Léo, the event served as a platform for dialogue and reflection between various stakeholders and road users. The theme of the day was “What is your responsibility as parents, authorities and structures responsible for raising awareness and providing the essential concepts or, where applicable, sanctioned”. Mr. Nebié extended his gratitude to ONASER’s general management for supporting this critical initiative.

Baowindsida Bingo, the secretary-general of the Sissili province, representing the high commissioner Tewendé Isaac Sia, commended the director of Radio Evangel Développement and his team for organizing the event. He highlighted that the awareness meeting on road safety was pivotal in challenging stakeholders to plan future actions for road safety.

The discussions during the event focused on educating participants about good road traffic practices and encouraging them to develop reflexes that protect their lives and the lives of others. Moreover, the meeting provided an opportunity for direct dialogues between the representative of ONASER, Maïmouna Carama, and the participants. These discussions covered the extent of road insecurity, the current state of affairs, the consequences of accidents, and the importance of exhibiting good behavior on the road.

A significant part of the awareness day was dedicated to learning about the highway code, with an emphasis on understanding various types of road signs. This educational aspect aimed to equip the students with knowledge that is crucial for safe road usage.

The event successfully addressed all concerns related to road safety, marking an important step in raising awareness among young individuals in Léo about their contributions to road safety.
