Mombasa Hosts KEPSHA’s 20th Annual Primary School Head Teachers Conference

MOMBASA, Kenya – The 20th annual conference of the Kenya Primary Schools Head teachers Association (KEPSHA) commenced today at the Sheikh Zayed Children Welfare Centre in Mombasa, focusing on the future of education management.

According to Kenya News Agency, KEPSHA Chairman, the five-day event will serve as a vital forum for primary school heads to exchange insights, discuss challenges, and share success stories relating to the enhancement of education management within a comprehensive school framework. The central theme of the conference is ‘rethinking education management within a comprehensive school framework, inspiring innovation for sustainable impact in present and future decades’.

The conference aims to develop strategies for sustainable education, enhance assessment and accountability in schools, promote inclusivity, adapt to technological advances, and improve professional development for teachers. Nzioka emphasized the organization’s commitment to adapting to evolving educational paradigms and fostering inclusivity while prioritizing the welfare of educators and learners.

The convening occurs in the context of significant educational reform, just a week after primary school students completed the final Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam under the 8-4-4 system, marking a shift to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). Nzioka expressed confidence in the nationwide acceptance of CBC among head teachers and reassured parents of a seamless transition in primary education.

While recognizing the government’s recent actions in hiring additional teachers and increasing their remuneration, Nzioka also highlighted the need for more specialized educators in special education.

The event will feature keynote addresses from distinguished guests, including Education Cabinet Secretary Mr. Ezekiel Machogu, who is scheduled to formally inaugurate the conference on Wednesday. Dr. Belio Kipsang, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Basic Education, and Nancy Macharia, the CEO of the Teacher Service Commission (TSC), are also expected to attend.

In alignment with national environmental goals and the president’s call to enhance tree coverage, KEPSHA, in partnership with Nature Lovers Consultancy, will plant 80 trees during the conference. This initiative represents the association’s commitment to environmental stewardship and its vision for a brighter and more sustainable future.
