Peace effort: Craftsmen donate 50 motorcycles to the Fighting Forces

Mining artisans (gold miners) handed over 50 motorcycles to the Defense and Security Forces and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland on Friday, to help them in their missions to secure the Burkinabe territory.

“We are victims of insecurity. Many gold panning sites in Burkina Faso no longer function due to insecurity. By handing over these motorcycles, we hope for the rapid return of peace to the country,” said the president of the union of associations of artisanal miners in Burkina Faso, Masmoudou Sawadogo.

The donation was handed over to the Minister in charge of Defence, Colonel-Major Kassoum Coulibaly, on behalf of the artisanal miners, by the Gaoua canton chief, Bifate II.

For Masmoudou Sawadogo, it is the contribution of artisanal miners to the peace effort.

Kassoum Coulibaly thanked the mining artisans for this gesture and reassured that these motorcycles will be used in the reconquest of the territory.

This donation took place on the sidelines of the second edition of Artisan Mining Day, opened on Friday July 21, 2023 in Gaoua on the theme: “Artisanal mining: what mechanisms for formalizing operators in order to improve the socio-economic benefits of the sector?”.

The event ends this Saturday, July 22, 2023.
