Burkina Faso Reaffirms Commitment to Sahel States Alliance During Bamako Meeting

BAMAKO – Burkina Faso has reaffirmed its commitment to the Alliance of Sahel States during a meeting between Prime Minister Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambèla and the President of the Malian Transition, Assimi Goïta, in Bamako.

According to Burkina Information Agency, The Prime Minister’s visit, coinciding with the 4th edition of the Mali International Crafts Fair (SIAMA), focused on discussions about security issues in the Sahel and development projects. Burkina Faso expressed satisfaction with the achievements of the Malian Armed Forces in their efforts to reclaim national territory, particularly noting the capture of Kidal.

Prime Minister Kyelem conveyed a message from Burkina Faso’s President, Ibrahim Traoré, to President Goïta, commending Mali’s progress and underscoring Burkina Faso’s total commitment to the formation and strengthening of the Alliance of Sahel States. He emphasized that this alliance is not only a choice of the governments but also reflects the expectations of the people.

Highlighting the significance of the alliance, Prime Minister Kyelem stressed the importance of the current leaders in shaping Africa’s history. He insisted that they must not fail in their efforts, as future generations will judge their actions and rely on the paths they forge.

Malian Prime Minister Choguel Maïga, speaking on the occasion, emphasized the role of governments and communicators in aligning public sentiment with the leaders’ vision. He reiterated that the primary focus of their powers should be the service of the people, fulfilling the mission entrusted by history and the populace.

Maïga also pointed out that while progress in defense is evident, similar achievements are necessary in economic and social development to ensure that the current process becomes irreversible.

The meeting between the leaders of Burkina Faso and Mali signifies a strong collaborative effort in the Sahel region, particularly in the face of security challenges and the need for economic and social development. The commitment to the Alliance of Sahel States highlights a collective approach to addressing regional issues and forging a path toward stability and prosperity.
