Kangundo Family Celebrates Reunion with Missing Relative in Garissa

KANGUNDO – A family in Kangundo is rejoicing after their two-year search culminated in the reunion with their missing relative, Ngina Ndeto, in Garissa town. Ndeto, a mother of four from Kivani village in Kaiti constituency, Makueni County, had been missing since April 2022. This period of uncertainty came to a heartwarming conclusion recently when the family located her in Garissa.

According to Kenya News Agency, Ndeto had been experiencing mental health issues since 2021, characterized by episodes of disappearance and subsequent recovery. Her final disappearance in 2022 initiated an extensive search that spanned several major towns and involved checks in numerous morgues. The family’s relentless pursuit eventually led them to Garissa, following a tip-off from a local radio station. Charles Katumo, Ndeto’s brother, shared the family’s ordeal and relief with the press outside the Garissa police station. He detailed their extensive search through Malili, Nairobi, Mombasa, and finally to Garissa, where they were able to locate Ndeto and make arrangements to return her home.

In light of these developments, Kitheka Mwendwa, the chairman of the Kamba Community Association in Garissa, advised Ndeto’s siblings to seek professional mental health care for her. Mwendwa emphasized the importance of stabilizing Ndeto’s condition to ensure her well-being and her ability to care for her children.

The family’s emotional journey and eventual reunion highlight the challenges faced by families of individuals with mental health issues, as well as the critical role of community support in such circumstances.
