Bouaké: Burkina Faso Secures Spot in CAN Round of 16

The Stallions of Burkina Faso have secured their place in the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) before even playing their 3rd group match against the Palancas Negras of Angola. This early qualification was confirmed on January 22 in Bouaké and is attributed to the results of the matches in groups A and B of the tournament.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Burkina Faso’s position was solidified despite not playing their scheduled match. With 4 points in their tally, they are set to advance regardless of the outcome of their match against Angola. This is due to their superior point total compared to the third-ranked teams in groups A and B: Côte d’Ivoire with 3 points and Ghana with 2 points. Burkina Faso’s performance thus far in the CAN ensures their presence among the top teams in the final group stages.
