Burkina Faso Establishes Seven Rapid Intervention Battalions for National Security

Ouagadougou – The Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has signed a decree for the creation of seven Rapid Intervention Battalions (BIR) in various locations throughout Burkina Faso.

According to a new release by the Burkina Information Agency, the battalions are to be stationed in Gourcy, Gaoua, Kongoussi, Banfora, Solenzo, Bogandé, and Gayéri.

The decree, dated October 25, 2023, states that these battalions are tasked with intervening as quickly as possible against any threats to the integrity of the national territory. The battalions will prioritize mobility and firepower in their operations.
