With the aim to strengthen and deepen Greece’s economic and business relations with the United Arab Emirates, the political leadership of the country’s Economic Diplomacy, Deputy Minister Kostas Fragogiannis and Secretary General Ioannis Smyrlis, will be welcoming in Athens on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, a numerous business delegation from the United Arab Emirates.
The delegation is headed by the UAE’s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, with the participation of the country’s five largest investment funds and 20 prominent companies. This is the first time that a business delegation of such size and significance from the UAE is visiting Greece.
The delegation is coordinated by the Abu Dhabi State Development Holding Company (ADQ), with which the Hellenic Development Bank and the Hellenic Development Bank of Investments signed, in May 2022, a Framework Agreement for the realization of investments totaling €4 billion in Greece. During the visit, the abovementioned Agreement’s Steering Committee will be convened for the first time.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness Kostas Fragogiannis will hold a bilateral meeting with the Emirati Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr. Al Jaber, on June 22 and they will jointly launch the business forum, taking place at the Grande Bretagne hotel.
The Forum and the series of B2B contacts scheduled with Greek businesses are organized by Enterprise Greece, under the coordination of the Secretariat General for International Economic Affairs and Openness. During the first day of the Forum, Greek authorities will present to Emirati investment funds and business groups important energy investment projects in Greece. These projects are grouped into five thematic categories: solar, wind energy and storage / hydrogen / exploration and production/ natural gas supply and FSRU / electricity interconnections.
The forum will not be open to media representatives, although accredited journalists and photographers will be allowed to cover the opening of the proceedings and a pool image will be provided by ERT. Accredited photographers can also cover the opening of the bilateral meetings.
