Five arrested for business robbery

Five suspects aged between 33 and 36 were arrested in Standerton, Mpumalanga on Sunday, 18 June 2023.

It is alleged that the five suspects committed a robbery at one of the business premises in Standerton, Mpumalanga using the same modus operandi in business robberies committed in Fezile Dabi District.

The Provincial Organised Crime Team deployed in Fezile Dabi District followed up on the information pertaining to the arrests of these suspects. All five suspects were positively linked to the business robberies committed at the beginning of June in Kroonstad, Parys and Villiers. Clothing shops were targeted and the suspects fled with money and cellphones. Two vehicles used as getaway cars during these robberies have been confiscated.

The arrested suspects will be charged with business robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. Four of these suspects are undocumented and will also be charged for contravening the Immigration Act.

They are expected to appear in court soon.
