Deputy President Mabuza to lead IMC on COVID-19 Vaccines Rollout outreach visit to Bojanala Platinum District Municipality
Deputy President David Mabuza, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on COVID-19 Vaccines, will tomorrow, Thursday, 09 September 2021, undertake an oversight visit to the North West Province, to engage on strategic interventions aimed at ramping up the COVID-19 vaccination rollout programme.
The Vaccination Rollout oversight visit led by Deputy President Mabuza will include members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Covid-19 Vaccines who will target the surrounding communities of Rustenburg, Kgetleng and Madibeng Municipalities in the Bojanala District of the North West province.
Work towards ensuring that our country reaches the population immunity target set continues, and all provinces remain key to ensuring that the set target is reached by 31 December 2021.
In this regard, the Inter-Ministerial Committee on COVID-19 Vaccines, chaired by Deputy President Mabuza, has undertaken to visit all the identified provinces to provide oversight support and strengthen the vaccination rollout programme towards achieving the set targets.
Currently, the North West Province has reportedly achieved about 20.1% vaccination coverage of the target population placing it as the third lowest performing province. The Bojanala District which constitutes close to half the total population of the North West in particular, is currently, the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic, thus necessitating the intervention by the Inter-Ministerial Committee.
The visit by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on COVID-19 Vaccines led by Deputy President Mabuza will provide a platform to strengthen efforts aimed at ramping up the vaccination rollout programme across the province.
Deputy President Mabuza will be supported by the Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla, Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Thandi Modise, Minister of Social Development, Ms Lindiwe Zulu, Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, Minister of Public Enterprise, Mr Pravin Gordhan, Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, the North West Premier, Mr Bushy Maape, Members of the Provincial Executive Council together with the leadership of the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality.
