Names of food poisoning victims released

The Namibian Police have released the names of the 16 people who died of food poisoning at Kayova village in the Kavango East Region earlier this week, with the youngest victim being nine months old.

By Thursday, 16 people reportedly died after allegedly eating porridge made from flour from the residue of traditional beer.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in an update on Thursday said the deceased are Liyomkela Matjayi Kamuyoyo (9 months); Liyomokera Kamuyoyo (two years old); Shishugho Mushango (three years old); Manguyi Johannes Mushongo (three); Shishugho Albertina (six); Shishugho Marumbo (six); Mungamba Roswitha (six); Mungamba Rebecca Mwengene (seven); Litwayi Ndumba Anton (seven); Shishugho Litwayi (nine); Shishugho Rosalia Runguro (10); Shishugho Liskaka (12); Shishugho Mununga (14); Shishugho Gilbert Haushiku (16) and Shishugho Petrus (20).

The 16th deceased person was a 33-year-old woman whose name had not been released yet.

The family members who were admitted to the Nyangana hospital are Shishugho Benhart Nyangana, Shishugho Hamutenya, Kambinda Silvester, Mushongo Lisho Joseph, Shishugho Albertina Mpande and Shishugho Botha.

One victim identified as Shishugho Bertha Ruhepo is currently in the Rundu State Hospital in critical condition.

Police investigations are ongoing.
