Uganda Prepares to Host Global NAM and G-77 Summits

Kampala – Uganda is gearing up to host two significant international summits back-to-back in January 2024. The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) global summit is scheduled from January 15 to 20, immediately followed by the G-77 summit from January 20 to 23, both taking place at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

According to Africa News Agency, the Third South Summit, themed ‘Leaving No One Behind’, is an integral part of the G-77 meetings. It aims to foster enhanced collaboration among the 134 member states in the face of global challenges like trade, investment, sustainable development, climate change, poverty eradication, and the digital economy. This event marks a continuation of the series, with the Second South Summit having been held in Doha, Qatar, in 2005 and the inaugural summit in Havana, Cuba, in 2000. The choice of Uganda as the host country aligns with the G-77’s principle of geographic rotation and emphasizes the importance of Africa in global diplomatic efforts.
