UAE and Somalia Sign Agreement on Water Wells Project

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – In a recent development signifying enhanced cooperation, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Somalia have signed an agreement focused on drilling water wells in the liberated regions of Somalia. The agreement was formalized by the Ambassador of UAE to Somalia, HE. Ahmed Alromaithi, and a representative from a Somali water drilling company. The signing took place in the presence of HE. Hasan Shaikh Mahmoud, the President of Somalia, during his visit to the UAE.

According to Somali National News Agency, the water wells project is an initiative by the UAE to support areas in Somalia that have recently been liberated from the control of the militant group Al-Shabaab. The project aims to address the critical need for clean and safe water in these regions, which have long suffered from water scarcity and drought. President Mahmoud of Somalia expressed deep gratitude to the UAE for their continuous support and applauded the bilateral cooperation. He directed the Somalia Office of Crisis and Natural Disaster Management (SoDMA) to oversee and facilitate the project’s implementation. The UAE Ambassador highlighted that this project underscores the UAE’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s journey towards stability, security, and development. SoDMA estimates that the project will benefit over 200,000 people in the liberated regions, significantly improving environmental, health, and living conditions.
