Two Arrested with 19 Suspected Stolen Sheep


Hertzogville – Two men, aged 37 and 42, are set to appear in the Hertzogville Magistrate Court following their arrest on Thursday, 21 December 2023, with livestock suspected to be stolen. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of livestock theft in the region.



According to South African Police Service, the farm owner from Hertzogville reported the theft of sheep from his farm. Responding to the incident, Hertzogville SAPS members and rural private security discovered the location where the sheep were slaughtered. The Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit, Welkom K9 Unit, and Hertzogville Rural Safety Coordinators were activated, leading them to a house in Boikanyo Street, Malebogo Township. There, 19 Merino sheep carcasses with visible branding were found, enabling the farmer to identify them as his livestock. Two suspects were arrested for theft of livestock and possession of suspected stolen property. Further arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues. SAPS members and private security were commended for their effective response.
