Government invests Kz 650 million to stop ravine in Lucapa

Lucapa – The Angolan government has invested around 650 million kwanzas to stop the ravine in the 10 de Novembro neighborhood, in the municipality of Lucapa, Lunda Norte province.

The works to stagnate the said ravine, whose first stone for the start of the contract took place this Sunday, in a ceremony guided by the Minister of Public Works and Housing, Carlos Santos, will last for 12 months.

On the occasion, the President of the Board of Directors of Fundo Rodoviário, Conceição Cristóvão, said that the project is part of the plan for emergency works and containment of ravines in the country.

On the other hand, he made it known that a ravine prevention program is planned, which will consist of new studies on the causes of the phenomenon in Angola.

He said that the program, in addition to studies, will allow provincial governments or municipal administrations to combat the formation of ravines, to prevent their progression.

He added that from the studies carried out so far, ravines in Angola are of water origin.

There are currently 742 ravines cataloged in the country, of which 84 in Lunda Norte, which require urgent intervention.

Of the 84 ravines in Lunda Norte, five are already being closed.
