Toeni Initiates Gendarmerie-Backed Vegetable Garden to Boost Women’s Resilience

Toeni, Burkina Faso – The Rapid Action Surveillance and Intervention Group (GARSI) together with the National Gendarmerie Detachment launched a vegetable garden project on April 22 in Toeni, Sourou, aimed at enhancing the resilience of local women. The initiative was created to help alleviate the shortage of vegetables in the area and promote women’s empowerment.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this project not only addresses the need for local vegetable production but also strengthens the relationship between the military and the local community. The ceremony on April 22 marked the first harvest and was attended by local religious and customary leaders, as well as staff from GARSI and the gendarmerie detachment.

The initiative, which began construction on January 10, 2024, saw widespread participation from the village population. It included providing agricultural equipment, seeds, and cleaning supplies to support the women whose economic activities have been affected by regional insecurity.
