Burkina Faso’s Head of State Honors Yacouba Sawadogo’s Environmental Legacy

Ouagadougou, December 3, 2023 (AIB) – Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the Head of State of Burkina Faso, paid homage to Yacouba Sawadogo, a renowned environmental protector, who passed away this Sunday. Traoré highlighted Sawadogo’s remarkable efforts in environmental conservation and his role as an inspiration for future generations.

According to Burkina Information Agency, “I pay great tribute to Yacouba Sawadogo, winner of the 2018 Alternative Nobel Prize, 2020 United Nations Earth Champion and honored by CILSS. This Burkinabè figure, symbol of combativeness, known for his efforts in the field of environmental protection, bowed out on December 3. The work of Yacouba Sawadogo must inspire the current generation for unconditional protection of the earth’s resources so that they benefit us to the maximum. Sincere condolences and compassion to his family!”

Yacouba Sawadogo, aged 77, dedicated 51 years to combating desertification in northern Burkina Faso. His relentless work transformed a once barren desert land into a thriving ecosystem, making a significant impact on environmental preservation.
