Uganda: We are coming for you, Pres Museveni tells terrorists

KAMPALA— Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni condemned the Tuesday suicide bombings in the capital Kampala, while assuring residents of continued efforts to fight terrorism and promote security.

He said terrorists have exposed themselves at a time when Uganda’s security infrastructure has improved and is more prepared to fight terrorism.

“The terrorists invited us and we are coming for them,” he said.

Museveni further said the Tuesday suicide bombers are manipulated and confused Bazzukulu (grandchildren).

He identified two of them as Mansoor Uthman and Wanjusi Abdallah.

He further said that police will issue guidelines on securing checkpoints outside buildings to ensure the safety of occupants.

“We are working with neighbours to deal with those (terrorists) operating from outside,” he added.

Ugandan authorities linked the attacks to radicalised groups attached to the Allied Democratic Forces, affiliated to the Daesh group.

The Daesh group claimed responsibility for the Tuesday explosions that killed three people and left several others wounded.

The group confirmed that the attack had been carried out by their suicide bombers, al-Amaq, a news agency affiliated to them reported late Tuesday.

The operation is the first time Daesh has claimed a suicide attack in Uganda since its activities were recorded in the country in October 2021.

Daesh identified the attackers as Abu Sabr al-Ugandi (Arabic word meaning someone from Uganda). He detonated a bag of explosives near a checkpoint at the Central Police Station.

The second attack was carried out by two attackers on motorbikes – “Abu Shahid al-Ugandi and Abu Abdul-Rahman al-Ugandi” – who also detonated similar explosive bags targeting guards at the parliament building.
