Two suspects to appear in separate courts for dealing in drugs

Two suspects, a 26-year-old and a 32-year-old are expected to appear in the Volkrust and Kriel Magistrate’s Courts respectively today, 22 May 2023 on allegations of dealing in suspected drugs and dagga.

Regarding the suspect that was nabbed in Volkrust with suspected drugs, it is said that the Police in Volkrust received a tip-off on Saturday, 20 May 2023 around 16:15 about a suspected drug peddler in their area. A white Toyota Corolla matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle was intercepted. Police reportedly searched the vehicle whereby 15 sachets of suspected Crystal Meth, two suspected Mandrax tablets as well as 85 plastic bags with suspected Nyaope were found in his possession. The total estimated street value of the suspected drugs is at about R5 000-00.

Meanwhile the report about the suspect arrested in Kriel with dagga and alleged drugs indicates that on Saturday, 20 May 2023 at about 19:00, the Police in Kriel received information about the suspected peddler at Thubelihle in Kriel. Police reacted to the information then visited the place and found the suspected peddler at his residence where a search was conducted.

The suspect was reportedly found with 46 zipped packs containing dagga, as well as large amount of loose dagga in a separate plastic bags and four plastic bags with brown powder suspected to be Nyaope. The dagga and suspected nyaope is estimated to be worth about R2 600-00 in street value. All suspected drugs seized will undergo forensic laboratory test as part of investigation.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela commended whistle-blowers for having played a critical role in the value chain of fighting drug trafficking and drug related crimes.
