Sissili Initiative Trains 30 Women in Crafts and Entrepreneurship


LÉO, SISSILI — On Friday, July 5, 2024, a special ceremony marked the completion of a craft and entrepreneurship training program for 30 women in Léo, under the auspices of the Bloom project.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the director of the Bloom project, the event celebrated the culmination of a ten-month training regimen that involved teaching 30 local women various craft skills as part of a broader initiative aimed at empowering vulnerable and displaced women in the regions of Bobo and Léo. The training included specializations in hairdressing, sewing, and carpentry, with 15, 9, and 6 participants in each field respectively.



The program, spanning 24 months, seeks to train a total of 60 women, with the dual goal of facilitating their professional integration or helping them start their own income-generating activities. This networking event provided a platform for the women to showcase their new skills and explore further opportunities for development.



During the ceremony, Wavé gave an overview of the Bloom project and its broader context within the Empow’her organization, applauding the Léo team for their commitment and successful project execution. The trained women demonstrated their crafts and discussed their creations with the audience, who had the opportunity to view an exhibition of their work.



Baowinsida Bingo, the secretary general of the province of Sissili, conveyed his appreciation to Empow’her for selecting the province as a project site and highlighted the critical role of women’s empowerment in driving sustainable development. He assured continuous administrative support for the success of such initiatives.



The event concluded with the distribution of toolkits to the participants, aiding them in starting their entrepreneurial journeys, and a tour of the exhibition stands by attendees.
