Laikipia, Kenya – In a successful operation, security officers have recovered 54 camels that were reportedly stolen by bandits in the Mlango grazing area of Isiolo County. The recovery occurred in Laikipia North Sub-County following a confrontational pursuit of the suspects.
According to Kenya News Agency, the recovery was achieved after a two-hour exchange of fire between the police and the rustlers. The operation took place this morning in Lekuk, Laikipia North Sub-County. Mr. Musango praised the combined efforts of the police and local National Police Reservists (NPRs) for their role in recovering the stolen camels.
Mr. Musango urged local residents to provide information that could assist in the apprehension of the criminals involved. He highlighted the ongoing efforts by security officers to track down the suspects. However, he also issued a warning to NPRs who neglect their duties in rural areas to work in towns, stating that such behavior provides opportunities for criminals and that those found guilty of this would face suspension.
The Deputy County Commissioner also revealed the recovery of 19 goats, previously stolen three months ago from the Mutuati area in Meru County. These goats were found at the Ngaremara location in Isiolo County and have since been returned to their rightful owners.
Additionally, two suspects connected to these crimes are currently in custody at the Isiolo Police Station and are awaiting court proceedings.
Mr. Musango emphasized that police patrols in the area have been intensified. He appealed to chiefs and NPRs to collaborate closely with commanders to combat prevalent crimes like rustling in the region.
