The Rwanda Meteorology Agency, yesterday warned of incoming heavy rains, in the month of Nov, that could result in widespread flooding, landslides, and loss of lives and property destruction.

In a weather forecast, the agency said, heavy rains are expected during the Nov 10-20 period, due to a strong Inter Tropical Convergence Zone, which is over the region where Rwanda is located.

According to the forecast, the expected rains will range between 80 and 240 millimetres. “Due to the heavy rains expected in different parts of the country, and which may cause disasters, Meteo Rwanda encourages all Rwandans and institutions responsible for disaster prevention, to pay attention and take measures related to dealing with disasters,” said the agency in the forecast.

Heavy rains are expected in different provinces of Rwanda, including the capital city, Kigali, according to the agency.

At least 11 people lost their lives, with property destroyed in Rwanda, after heavy rains pounded different parts of the country in Apr, according to the Rwandan Ministry of Emergency Management.
