Mogadishu, Somalia – Mikhail Golovanov, the Russian Ambassador to Djibouti and Somalia, has arrived in Mogadishu today. His arrival marks a significant development as he oversees the delivery of a food aid shipment from Russia to the Federal Government of Somalia. The shipment, comprising 25 tons of Russian grain, is due to arrive at the port of Mogadishu in the upcoming days.
According to Somali National News Agency, Ambassador Golovanov’s visit is part of a broader Russian initiative aimed at providing food assistance to African nations grappling with food insecurity and humanitarian challenges. Somalia is the initial recipient of this aid, which the Russian government declared a few months prior. The Ambassador was welcomed by Daud Aweis Jama, the Somali Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, and Abdurahman Nur Mohamed (Diinaari), the Director of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both officials expressed their profound gratitude to the Russian government and its people for their substantial support and solidarity.
This food aid is anticipated to significantly benefit thousands of Somali families currently in desperate need of humanitarian aid. Furthermore, the Russian government has committed to maintaining its humanitarian and developmental collaborations with Somalia and other African nations, signaling a continuation of support in these critical areas.
