Dédougou: The Emergency Territorial Development and Resilience Project (PUDTR) has taken significant strides in improving infrastructure across the Boucle du Mouhoun region, as evidenced by a recent visit to the communes of Fara, Poura, Sibi, and Boromo. This visit, which took place from November 21 to 22, 2024, included media personnel who observed the tangible achievements of the project.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the PUDTR’s efforts have been instrumental in alleviating overcrowding at Fara Public Primary School, which accommodates internally displaced students. The project has constructed a block of three classrooms, a hall, a store, an office, and toilets. Fatimata Séré, representing the school director, highlighted the positive impact, noting that the additional classrooms have significantly reduced congestion and are well-ventilated, enhancing the learning environment.

Beyond educational infrastructure, the commune of Fara benefits from improved road and health facilities, as well as a
n autonomous water station in the village of Dakaye. The Yafama association has received equipment and working capital to aid in the processing and marketing of local rice. Aloys Ouango, president of the special delegation of Fara, praised the standardization of 20 schools and the construction of six school complexes and health facilities. The project also contributed 65 kilometers of roads and installed streetlights over 5 kilometers.

In the commune of Siby, infrastructure enhancements include rural tracks, while Poura has seen the installation of 167 solar street lamps, 19 classrooms, 40 blocks of latrines, and a rural track in the village of Darsalam. Additionally, the PUDTR has built six autonomous water stations and six pastoral boreholes to improve access to drinking water and sanitation.

Denis Traoré, president of the special delegation of Siby, noted the positive impact of these developments, particularly as the commune accommodates internally displaced persons, which strains basic social services.
The infrastructure improvements are expected to enhance living and working conditions.

In Boromo, the PUDTR has supported local associations, provided equipment, training, and working capital, and invested in health and school infrastructure. Siebo Seremé, head nurse of the standardized CSPS in Boromo, emphasized the improved working conditions brought about by the project, as the previous maternity ward was inadequate.

Jean Robert Traoré, head of the Boucle du Mouhoun PUDTR branch, reported a substantial investment of 27 billion 684 million 978 thousand 464 FCFA in the region. The project has financed 27 associations engaged in income-generating activities and established 1,170 street lights, 65 hectares of lowlands, and market garden sites in Yaba and Lankoué. The project also boasts the cleaning of 65 km of gutters, the creation of 200 km of rural tracks, and the equipping of 400 classrooms with tables, benches, and lighting, as well as the standardization of 26 CSPS facilities.
