Arerti Industrial Park Bolsters Ethiopia’s Economy with Over 1 Billion Birr in Import Substitution


ADDIS ABABA — The Industrial Parks Development Cooperation (IPDC) announced that Arerti Industrial Park has generated more than 1 billion Birr from import-substituted products in the last eight months of the 2023/24 Ethiopian fiscal year. The achievement underscores the park’s role in reducing the country’s reliance on imported goods by fostering domestic production.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, Deputy CEO of IPDC’s Investment Promotion and Marketing division, the success of Arerti Industrial Park has not only translated into significant savings of more than 19.4 million USD but has also established crucial market linkages worth over 12.5 million USD. The initiative has led to the creation of over 830 new jobs, with more than 1500 Ethiopians now employed in the park. This economic boon stems from the park’s focus on diverse sectors, including garments, textiles, ceramics, and wood products, highlighting Ethiopia’s capacity for industrial growth and self-sufficiency.
