Ouagadougou Celebrates 45th Anniversary of Iranian Islamic Revolution

OUAGADOUGOU – The Ambassador of the Iranian Islamic Republic in Burkina Faso commemorated the 45th anniversary of the Iranian Islamic Revolution’s victory in Ouagadougou, with the presence of Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister Me Apollinaire Joachimson Kyelem de Tambéla.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, which took place on Thursday evening, highlighted the unique political system of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which integrates Islamic-Iranian philosophy, Sharia laws, and democracy. The celebration was attended by Prime Minister Kyelem de Tambéla, Minister of State, Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, General Kassoum Coulibaly, and other government officials.

Ambassador Faghihi emphasized the foundation of Iran’s success since its revolution in 1979 as stemming from its political independence and the nationalization of thought policy. He critiqued the borrowing of political systems and ideas from abroad as diminishing to a country’s power, making it subservient to the exporter’s culture and politics.

Highlighting Iran’s scientific advancements, Faghihi noted Iran’s jump from 54th to 15th place in global rankings from 1996 to 2022. He outlined the foreign policy under President Ebrahim Raissi, focusing on expanding relations with friendly nations, prioritizing the East, Africa, Asia, and neighboring countries.

The diplomatic relationship between Burkina Faso and Iran, spanning over four decades, has been strengthened since the transition to President Captain Ibrahim Traoré on September 30, 2022. The first joint cooperation commission between the two countries took place in Ouagadougou last October, resulting in the signing of nine cooperation documents across various fields.

The ambassador also mentioned humanitarian aid provided by Iran to Burkina Faso, including medicines and food, and supported Burkina Faso’s independent efforts against terrorism and for establishing security.

Minister Delegate in charge of regional cooperation Stella Kabré commended the strong relations between the two nations, suggesting that Burkina Faso could learn from Iran’s development, resilience, and maintenance of values amidst international challenges.

The commemoration concluded with officials cutting a birthday cake, marking the end of the celebration of Iran’s National Day in Ouagadougou.
