PReCA Boosts Agricultural Initiatives Among IDPs in South-West Burkina Faso

GAOUA — The Agricultural Resilience and Competitiveness Project (PReCA) has provided significant financial support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the South-West region of Burkina Faso, enabling them to engage in agricultural activities. On July 4, 2024, PReCA distributed checks totaling over 500 million FCFA in Gaoua to support these initiatives.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this funding is part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources under the Transition Government to facilitate the economic reintegration of IDPs. The PReCA Coordinator, Adama Siri, highlighted that the distributed funds, amounting to 534 million 931 thousand 468 FCFA, will assist 524 resettled IDPs in launching microprojects within the agricultural sector. This initiative is designed not only to stimulate the local economy but also to aid in the national effort to reclaim and stabilize the territory. The funding ceremony featured key figures, including the Minister of Defense, General Kassoum Coulibaly, and the Minister of Agriculture, Commander Ismaël Sombié, reflecting the significant support from the government towards these efforts. Additionally, the local population presented a payment receipt to the Public Treasury, contributing over one million FCFA to the peace efforts.
