Ouahigouya, Burkina Faso – Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Ouahigouya held a march-meeting on Saturday, December 2, 2023, to express their support and appreciation for the efforts of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP) during the November 26 attack on Djibo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, attended by a large number of residents from the city of “Naaba Kango,” was organized to acknowledge the determination and efforts of the FDS and VDP in repelling the Djibo attack and their ongoing operations to reclaim territory. The gathering, which began at 7 am at the Place de la Nation, saw participation from men, women, and children, all showing solidarity with the Transition. Amidou Ganamé, the spokesperson for the Northern Patriots Movement, emphasized that the gathering served to reinforce their support and commitment to the FDS and VDP, who bravely confronted the attackers in Djibo. He praised their heroism and determination in combating obscurantist forces. Ganamé also urged all peace-loving citizens to back the authorities for a decisive victory. He mentioned that the rise of MPSR 2 to power has sparked and continues to ignite hope among the populace. Ali Badini, the Secretary-General of the Northern Patriots, remarked that the ongoing military offensives against terrorism, which are yielding tangible results, underline the importance of the current leadership. CSOs called for an extension of the Transition period and a revision of the current constitution to ensure its success, appealing to all sectors of the country to support the leadership team in this critical phase.
