Ouagadougou to Host Wiisga Festival Celebrating Hairstyle and Beauty Industry

OUAGADOUGOU – The Association of Hairdressers and Beauticians of Burkina Faso (ACEBF) announced the inaugural Wiisga Festival, a three-day event aimed at showcasing local talent and fostering professional development within the beauty industry. The festival is set to take place from May 3 to 5, 2024, at the Jean-Pierre Guingané Culture Palace in Ouagadougou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, president of the ACEBF, the festival seeks to highlight the exceptional skills of Burkina Faso’s hairdressers and beauticians through an innovative fashion show. The event will focus on promoting excellence in hairdressing and aesthetics, with a strong emphasis on the economic and social contributions of these sectors amid the country’s security challenges. Sawadogo emphasized the potential of the beauty industry to contribute significantly to the national economy, despite facing challenges such as limited resources and technical expertise.

The Wiisga Festival’s agenda includes practical workshops, training sessions led by experts, networking opportunities, and a platform for exhibiting products and equipment. Additionally, the event will feature a discussion forum addressing the challenges and opportunities within the hairdressing and aesthetics sectors. A fashion show will also be a highlight, alongside activities aimed at raising awareness of social causes like blood drives for the security forces, support for internally displaced people, and discussions on sector-specific challenges.

Sawadogo highlighted the festival’s goal to elevate industry standards and foster a spirit of innovation and solidarity among professionals. The event will also acknowledge the support of sponsors and patrons through the presentation of certificates of appreciation, further underlining the community’s collaborative efforts towards enhancing the beauty industry in Burkina Faso.

Founded in 2014, the ACEBF boasts around 300 members and is committed to promoting, developing, and enhancing the hairdresser-beautician profession in Burkina Faso. Its mission extends to training apprentices, supporting their integration into the workforce, and participating in competitions to strengthen the capabilities of salon owners.
