In Ouagadougou, Salifou Ouédraogo, a local farmer who operates nearly 100 hectares of baobabs, donated 1,000 baobab plants to the government on Tuesday. The gesture was made as part of the closing ceremonies of the Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation Days, an initiative aimed at encouraging sustainable environmental practices.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the donation aligns with the government’s reforestation efforts announced during the event. He expressed his support for the government’s call to action, noting that these efforts are crucial for ensuring food self-sufficiency and preserving the environment for future generations. Ouédraogo, who has planted a total of 35,000 baobabs over 56 years, also highlighted the importance of these plants in sustaining the local ecosystem. His contributions to environmental conservation have previously earned him the Kuuri d’or Environnement at the 7th International Agricultural and Livestock Show (SIAEL).
