Nurses in Léraba Celebrated for Contributions to Healthcare

SINDOU — Nurses from the Cascades region were honored during the International Day of Nurses celebration held in Sindou, Léraba province, on July 6, 2024. The event, themed “Our Nurses. Our Future. The Economic Power of Care,” recognized the significant contributions of nurses and included multiple health-related activities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the secretary general of the province of Léraba who presided over the ceremony, nurses were presented with certificates of recognition. The day also paid tribute to Florence Nightingale, a pioneer in the nursing field. Defense and Security Forces and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland were similarly acknowledged for their roles.

Somé expressed satisfaction with the choice of his province for the event and called for continued cooperation between the local population and nurses. The ceremony featured a variety of health initiatives, including blood donation drives, conferences, free screenings for hepatitis B, blood pressure checks, diabetes tests, and a community cross run.

Health executives and other authorities from Léraba province were also given certificates of recognition. Additionally, an envelope containing 200,000 CFA francs was donated to support peace efforts.

The president of the National Council of Nurses of Burkina Faso, Bombila Sawadogo, and the regional director of health and public hygiene of the Cascades, Dr. Wenkoni Ouédraogo, praised the nurses for their dedication and urged more individuals to join the nursing profession to strengthen the healthcare system in the region.

The event’s sponsor, Moussa Traoré, a local resident, expressed his pleasure at supporting the celebration, highlighting the community’s appreciation for the nurses’ efforts.
