Angola Advocates for SADC Free Movement and Economic Diversification

Port Louis, Mauritius – Angola has voiced strong support for the relaunch of the agricultural sector, economic diversification, and the free movement of goods within the Southern African Development Community (SADC). This stance was presented during a meeting in Port Louis, Mauritius.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the national report on the progress of implementing the decisions of the 53rd Plenary Assembly of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, presented by Deputy Pedro Sebastião, emphasized the need for member states to concentrate on food security and equitable resource allocation to combat poverty and vulnerability. Carolina Cerqueira, Speaker of the Angolan National Assembly, highlighted the importance of cooperation among states to address the impact of climate change, especially on poorer countries and island nations facing unique challenges like geographic isolation and natural calamities. She called for integrated legislative measures to mitigate climate change effects and support sustainable development in the region.

The SADC Parliamentary Forum, established in 1997, is a regional inter-parliamentary body comprising 15 parliaments and over 3500 parliamentarians, focusing on various issues including human rights, gender equality, and environmental sustainability.
