Balé Province Launches National Planning Week with Focus on Contraceptive Use

Boromo – The prefect of the Ouri department, Sibiri Bamogo, inaugurated the activities of the National Planning Week in Ouri on Monday, November 6. The event, organized by the Boromo health district, marks a significant initiative in the realm of public health and family planning in the Balé province.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this week-long event, from November 6 to 12, 2023, allows the local population to access free advice and choose from various contraceptive methods at public health centers.

The 12th edition of the National Planning Week was officially launched in the commune of Ouri, hosting various activities including an awareness sketch by the Boromo artistic club, a game on planning, and a presentation of contraceptive methods. The event saw the mobilization of health authorities from the Boromo district and the region, along with administrative, customary, and religious authorities, and local populations.

Representing High Commissioner Ibrahim Boly, president of the district health council, the prefect of Ouri, Sibiri Bamogo, urged the population of the entire province to participate actively in the week’s activities and to educate themselves about the different contraceptive methods available. This encouragement underscores the importance of family planning in the region.

The village chief of Ouri also appealed to young couples and youth to visit health centers for guidance on family planning. However, he emphasized the responsible use of contraceptive methods, cautioning against their misuse as a pretext for infidelity. This initiative reflects a broader effort to promote health and well-being in the Balé province, balancing cultural values and modern health practices.
