Burkina: Half-yearly evaluation of ministers and sport on the menu of the newspapers

This Wednesday’s Burkinabè dailies deal with the opening of an ultramodern sports center in Bobo Dioulasso and mainly with the half-yearly evaluation of ministerial departments.

“Semi-annual evaluation of ministerial departments: acceptable balance sheet at Defense, that of Infrastructures mixed”, headlines the national daily Sidwaya.

Sidwaya informs that the head of government, Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélem de Tambela appreciated the work done by the Minister of National Defense and Veterans Affairs, Colonel-Major Kassoum Coulibaly and that of Infrastructure and Opening up, Adama Luc Sorgho, on Tuesday August 22, 2023 in Ouagadougou.

The newspaper reports that at the Department of National Defence, it is noted that efforts are being made to protect populations and restore the integrity of the territory and that according to Minister Kassoum Coulibaly, operations are continuing on the land where all the forces are engaged and determined in the gradual reconquest of the territory.

The state daily specifies that according to testimonies, the achievement rate at the Ministry of Defense is 56.27% and that in the same exercise at the level of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Opening up, an effective achievement rate of around 34.9%.

The Paalga Observer, the dean of private Burkinabè dailies on the same subject, has on its headline: “Evaluation of target contracts in the 1 st half: 56% increase in power for Defence”.

He adds that in terms of securing populations, the man who says he is acting on the ground preferred that these performances be evaluated by journalists and the populations with regard to the actions carried out by the Defense and Security Forces (FDS).

The Observer Paalga mentions that the Minister of Infrastructure and Opening up, Adama Luc Sorgho to justify his performance mentioned problems in the execution of works related to security challenges.

According to the newspaper, the minister reports that he is obliged to suspend work in the areas where they are working but reassures that he will continue consultations with the FDS to free up these areas in order to be able to intervene.

From another angle, the state daily headlines: “Sport and well-being: Iron Biby opens an ultramodern sports facility in Bobo-Dioulasso”.

The newspaper informs that the Burkinabè athlete, Cheick Ahmed Al-Hassan Sanou alias Iron Biby, quadruple world champion in Log Lift, opened his sports performance center called “Lassina Sanou (LS) VIP Sport Center” on Saturday August 12, 2023 in Bobo Dioulasso.

The newspaper specifies that with the latest generation equipment, the center is composed of a cardio or endurance exercise room, a fighting cage for mixed martial arts, a massage room, a sauna and a non-alcoholic bar.

Still in sport, the newspaper Le Quotidien returns to the Budapest 2023 world athletics championship which is currently taking place in Hungary, highlighting the performance of the Burkinabe athlete Fabrice Zango who, according to him, “became the first African medalist in ‘triple jump gold’.

For its part, L’Express du Faso, a private daily published in Bobo-Dioulasso, takes up the words of the new world champion, Fabrice Zango, who declares: “I finally have this gold medal”.
