Windhoek: The Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) and Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Windhoek on Monday to introduce digital solutions to improve Namibia’s water management.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the partnership focuses on solutions such as smart water metering, digital payment systems, data analytics, and cloud computing to optimise water usage, reduce losses, and enhance service delivery. NamWater Chief Executive Officer, Abraham Nehemia, stated that the initiative is crucial for modernising the sector. “This partnership is a transformative step towards addressing the critical challenges facing Namibia’s water sector. By leveraging technology, we aim to drive efficiency and sustainability,” Nehemia said.
MTC’s Chief Technical and Information Officer, Monica Nehemia, emphasised the importance of digitalisation in the water sector. “MTC is pleased to collaborate with NamWater in integrating digital solutions. This partnership demonstrates how te
chnology can improve lives and service delivery,” she said. The MoU also includes joint research and capacity building to equip staff with digital governance skills and improve decision-making through data sharing.
NamWater plans to implement smart water metering in rural areas to ensure accurate billing and efficient resource management. “These efforts will help us build a sustainable future where innovation leads to better water usage and service delivery,” Nehemia added. Both parties lauded the agreement as a step toward addressing water challenges and improving infrastructure for all Namibians.
