OR TAMBO DISTRICT – The newly formed OR Tambo District Task team has made significant strides in their high-density operations aimed at curbing criminal activities during the festive season. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to enhance safety and security in the area.

According to South African Police Service, the special operations conducted by the task team from Saturday, November 25, 2023, until the early hours of November 26, 2023, have yielded notable results in the Madeira area. According to the police, the achievements of the team during this period included several arrests and confiscations. A 33-year-old individual was arrested for contravening the Immigration Act, and three others were detained for drunken driving.

In addition to these arrests, the team also confiscated a variety of items commonly associated with criminal activities. This included 18 scissors, 17 knives, 27 mandrax tablets, 35 dagga sachets, a packet of loose dagga, and a sachet of tik.

Maj Gen Phumzile Cetyana, the OR Tambo District Commissioner, praised the new team for their effective efforts. He noted that the team was specifically assembled to target stubborn crimes in hotspot areas. The impact of their work, despite being in the early stages of formation, has already been felt. Maj Gen Cetyana expressed confidence that the task team would continue to make a significant difference in reducing crime in the district.

These early successes of the OR Tambo District Task team demonstrate a proactive approach to law enforcement and community safety, particularly during times when increased festive activities can lead to a rise in criminal behavior.
